still searching for the new normal

It's Saturday morning at the Shaub house, and things are a bit more normal than they have been for four months. Dad is drinking his coffee, while the dogs and daughters lounge lazily beside him. It's nice to be home.

Of course, Mom and Jonathan are not joining our "normal" routine this morning. Mom enjoyed sleeping in her own bed last night, but this morning brought sort of a hard reminder that just because we are home, that doesn't mean life will magically become the same again.

New beginnings can be fairly difficult, and this one has its share of challenges. Jonathan is being fully evaluated this weekend by the new doctors. This morning, he is anesthesized for wound care, evaluation and tests. He has a lot of pain and discomfort, and the doctors seem concerned about the ossification and his healing process.

Though Jonathan is home, this transition requires a great deal of patience and rest for all of us. Thanks to Nashville people for respecting the healing process - please be patient with us as we make this transition. We will communicate visiting information for Jonathan as soon as the doctors feel it is appropriate.

THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH for touching base with us, as we all rejoice and yet wonder at JD's return to Nashville. Please keep us posted on how he and all of you are doing so we know when to act.

Our prayers continue as we know that just because he is in Nashville, does not mean he is through this yet.

Peace and rest to all of you!!

much love,
ginge

What a joyous thing to read!!
I can just see David sitting in that kitchen drinking coffee and it brings tears of gratitude at the miracles that God has been doing for months, and that all of you have been holding so preciously in mind.

I am so happy for Sharon that she is back in her home, and feel confident that just as everyone was surprised by this blessing, so will you all soon be surprised by how quickly Jonathon will be healed enough to be at home with you.

Know that all of you are constantly in my prayers.

Thank you for letting us know that you and your mom and J. made it home safely, Nicole. Several people asked me today at a fueral if you all got here, so thanks for the update. Although people are anxious to see Jonathan, all we want most is for him to get better and heal, so if that means waiting to see him, not a problem. We know you'll give the okay when it's time. Until then, prayers continue for you all.
Love, Elisabeth

The last thing you should woory about is entertaining visitors; J needs time to rest (and so do the rest of you). It takes a long time to get to normal--or what you now consider normal--but that's ok. There are good days and bad days ahead. Don't let the good days make you feel too good, or the bad too bad; it's just part of the process.

Taking care of someone is as bad, or worse, than being the patient. There are so many people who want to hug J and all of you; just remember that you can tell them no--there's nothing wrong with that.

This road to recovery will be log and arduous--filled with great days and horrific days. Don't get too high or to low. I am sure that you all will make it through.

Peace,
Matt

Dear, dear Shaubs,

I believe I have responded to every blog that you have sent out. I have grieved, cried, laughed for and with you all. As you know each time I write I have tried to remind us all that God is good and He is faithful. In addition, I acknowledge that this is the day He has made and we will rejoice and be glad.

Sometime it is difficult to remember to hold fast to my faith and remember what He tells us. My very, very sad news tonight is that my precious, beautiful daughter Sallye died on Friday. Preliminary results indicate she died with a massive heart attack. We are devastated, we are rejoicing. The Lord has already shown us blessings from our deep tragedy. I want to remind all who read this that life and family are very precious and tenuous.

My having had these blogs have increased my awareness and appreciation of just how important life and family is. Just having the Shaub blogs and all the faithful responses has given me greater strength. I want you all to know as I sit here in tears your blogs have been a blessing and I think the Lord has used you all to help me get through this very sad time. You see! It has been part of my preparation.

I certainly do not want this message to be anywhere near a downer, just a thank you to every single one of you and a big hallelujah chorus for the Shaubs, especially Jonathan David Shaub. I look forward to a day when I can walk into his place(where ever it might be) and meet him in person. David and Sharon, I am so proud and happy for you as well as for the precious girls. You are a true inspiration.

Much love to you all, Nancy

God Bless you and your family with peace and love.

Hello Shaubs!

I rejoice and cheer with each of you that Jonathan is home in Nashville, and that the family is on Granny White Pike! Jonathan will be there, too, soon! I can only imagine that just being in Nashville brings a sense of peace to each of you. I know Vandy will take great care of J., and they better treat him like the VIP that he is!! :)

Nicole, I identified with you in your last blog concerning the feelings you had for the "True Home", Heaven, where we will all reside in one day. When we are faced with trials, & life and death situations here on Earth, the thought of the perfection in Heaven makes us appreciate whats waiting for us!

My husband and I continue to pray daily for you all--

Look forward to seeing you all when we can.....

Love,
Christy
